Obituary

John Oliver Bowers, 67, formerly of West Chicago, IL and currently of Pierron, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

John was one of the most intelligent men you could ever meet. He was a great cook and taught his son and granddaughters how to cook. John enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, and watching his favorite game shows, Family Feud and Jeopardy. He was a huge Chicago sports fan and would always make time for his family unless the White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, or Cubs (but only during that World Series run) were on. John loved his family, his dog, and his country. He embraced the slower life of Pierron and was at peace when he passed.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice (nee Hemby) Bowers and his brother, Tommy Bowers.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Teressa Christine Bowers; children, Nicol Skaar, John R. Bowers, Scott (Katy) Peterson, and Michael (Amanda) McInturff; grandchildren, Teressa “T.J.” Peterson, Zach Kolozsy, Heather Giomi, Alexis Strawn, Maryssa Brown, Kelsie Wentland, Brendan McInturff, Drake McInturff, and Austin “A.J.” McInturff; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Strawn, Kayden Suh, and Mythias Strawn; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Memorials can be received at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269 to help the family offset funeral expenses. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.

According to John’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral services. A memorial will be held at a later date in his hometown of West Chicago, IL.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Schildknecht Funeral Home.

Thanks Dad, for the memories, the wisdom, and all the little things that you didn't have to do. You use to say, "Anybody can be a Father, but it takes a real man to be a Dad." You were most definitely a man. Without you, I would always have only been a Father. You showed me what it was to be a real Man. I love you and I miss you.
